Step 1. Upon subscribing, each participant is issued a CybraryCard, with an account number similar to airline Frequent Flyer
programs. With the CybraryCard, learning is a family affair: whether the primary subscriber is an educator or a parent, they and
their children have access to our Cybrary. A personal Learning Account is established on a secure database that tracks each course taken, and the step by step progress to mastery of course objectives.
Step 2. A Research Interview is completed online, to ascertain the individual's prior skills and knowledge, and to set a baseline
for measuring personal growth. A qualified Cybrarian (meaning someone who has completed their professional studies in
Information Science) reviews this material and an initial set of strategies and goals is developed and discussed with the subscriber.
This information is shared with a team of qualified professional Coaches, who have demonstrated success in online coaching and
completed their orientation to OII course materials and processes. Regularly scheduled "office hours" with Coaches and Cybrarians provides support beyond the weekly "group hours" provided to each course.
Step 3. Subscribers select from a menu of online courses the offering that most clearly meets their immediate needs. Using our
database, groups of people with compatible goals may form collaborative groups. Coaches are assigned to each class and may work with study groups or a number of individuals, depending on the make up of the class.
Step 4. Each subscriber submits the results of their work for peer review (whether parents, students or educators). Those
materials that meet the criteria are added to our Cybrary of evaluated resources, which are only available to CybraryCard
holders. Learning Points are awarded for each accepted contribution, which may be applied to higher level courses or CyberSeminars.
Step 5. Each subscriber is invited to participate at regional CyberSeminars, held in hotels across the nation. CyberSeminars
model the effective use of Information Technology and afford online collaborators the chance to meet face to face. Educators who
have succeeded in enhancing outcomes for learners using various products will share their strategies at these sessions. Rather than
surveying the entire field of products, OII takes a holistic approach, demonstrating the full range of capabilities required to support effective learning.
For example, a subscriber might select Intro to the WWW. As a result of completing this course, their Learning Account would demonstrate that they:
- Understand the nature of information on the WWW, the variety of content, and can locate information effectively, using a variety of strategies
- Can collect and organize personal information resources
- Can evaluate the quality of online information
- Can communicate effectively online
The only limit to how many courses CybraryCard subscribers may complete during the year is their own stamina. There are
different levels at which they may take these courses, each with different expectations for interaction and investment of time and
effort required. These range from "Survey" (auditing the course, with full interaction privileges in online discussion areas) to
"MasterClass" (small groups online with personal coaching and interactions with recognized leaders in education). Any course
may be audited for free. Each subscriber may select one course for Credit for free. Subsequent courses for credit vary in cost according to the type of credit (CEU, University credit) desired.
