OII at NECC99

The Online Innovation Institute (OII) is a results driven organization, which offers professional development workshops to help students and teachers improve classroom achievement. OII provides educators with a learning environment to support integrating the Internet into their individual teaching styles. Utilizing the Four Directions for Lifelong Learning, OII offers a combination of online and on-site collaborations in which participants develop projects to use in their classrooms.

The 21st Century Teachers Network is a nationwide volunteer movement encouraging teacher leaders in educational technology to develop new skills for using technology in their teaching and learning activities. This is a unique program for teachers, led by teachers. 21st Century Teachers are pioneers in using technology to enhance teaching and learning, from the English  teacher who develops professional  networks online to share innovative curriculum ideas with colleagues, to the  science teacher who helps students access up-to-the-minute science information from around the world over the Internet, to the third grade teacher aide who uses multimedia technologies to create exciting learning opportunities.

OII and 21CT are working together to promote school reform and technology infusion in our nation's schools. This year at NECC, Ferdi Serim, OII cofounder and editor of Multimedia Schools, will present "Helping Them Get IT: How Teachers and Library/Media Specialists Can Change the World".  Art Wolinsky, OII Technology Director and NJ Chapter Director of 21CT, will present "Web Weaving with Filamentality: A New Definition for the WWW".

Ferdi and Art will also join forces with to present "Multifaceted Staff Development Models,"  This web page collection contain material developed for and used in that workshop. It covers tools and techniques used and developed by OII to implement a unique staff development program at the Southern Regional School District in Manahawkin, NJ, where Art Wolinsky serves as a technology infusion consultant.

These pages will center around an article that tells the story of Southern's staff development efforts   The article titled, "What Works in Staff Development" appeared in the March-April issue of Multimedia Schools Magazine.  On these pages I provide links to additional resources, specifics about technology used, and updates on initiatives introduced and implemented since the writing of that article
