The Southern Regional Wide Area Network

Though systemic reform isn't "about" technology, technology is certainly a factor in the reform movement.  Here are some of the specifics about technology that I did not detail in the MMS article.

The Southern Regional WAN is about 800 computers spread out over three school buildings and the board offices, all located on a 250 acre campus

Two SGI Origin 200 servers take care of all student and faculty logins and file sharing. Two NT servers take care of the administrative functions of the school district.  There are separate servers for Email, Web, Printing, all sitting behind a Firewall.

The administrative network has about 120 Pentium computers.  The student network is built around the premis that best configuration is a balance of classroom computers and labs. Labs are typically 25 computers.
